CIA OPERATIONS IN IRAN DEALT ANOTHER SEVERE BLOW WITH ARREST OF ALLEGED SPY

Iran divulged the arrest this past week of an Iranian national it claimed was working for American intelligence, specifically, the CIA. State TV reported the Intelligence Ministry account that the purported operative had been furnished with weapons instruction at American bases in Afghanistan and Iraq, and whose assignment entailed supplying false information to the Iranians. The Intelligence Ministry further asserted that said agent was supposed to initiate his mission out of Bagram base in Afghanistan, but entered Iran through the efforts of Iranian intelligence, and was thereafter placed under arrest.
This arrest comes after the CIA has experienced several significant losses in its espionage campaign in Iran. Informed sources in the U.S. intelligence community admitted to Reuters last month that a number of CIA informants were found out. Iranian authorities disclosed 30 spying arrests relative to the U.S. this past May, while this month witnessed 15 indictments of accused American and Israeli operatives. The death penalty can be imposed in espionage cases in Iran. On December 4, Tehran claimed it had brought down a CIA drone, that it then captured. It later paraded the spy plane on television, and went on to maintain that it very nearly had unlocked the aircraft’s technological mysteries.
The U.S. has spearheaded diplomatic undertakings to strengthen sanctions against Iran, for its believed pursuit of nuclear capability, an allegation it has refuted repeatedly. American and Israeli officials have not disavowed attacks on nuclear sites in that country.
